Policy on cookie use

When consulting Virbac Group websites, cookies may be placed on your computer, mobile or tablet. Thus certain personal data are automatically collected, such as your IP address and your login.

The aim is to facilitate your navigation of our websites, optimise it and remember your interests and time spent on the site.

What is a cookie?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your browser by websites that you visit. Cookies are typically used to make websites work, to improve user experience, as well as to provide information to the owners of a website.

Certain cookies are necessary for use of the site, while others allow us to personalise and optimise content display and retrieve user preferences, while yet others measure the performance and anomalies of the site and secure access to the site.

What is the purpose of a cookie?

When you enter a website using cookies, you may be asked to fill out a form providing personal information like your name, e-mail address, and interests. This information is packaged into a cookie and sent to your browser, which then stores the information for later use. The next time you go to the same website, your browser will send the cookie to the Web server. The message is sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. Cookies thus enable the websites to remember your actions and preferences (such as login, language, font size and other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another.

What cookies do we use and why?

Our website uses cookies to distinguish you from other users of our website. Cookies are used to ensure that we provide you with the best experience on our websites, and allow us to improve them regularly.

Here are the different types of cookies we use:

  • Strictly necessary cookies - These are cookies that are essential for the operation of our website. These cookies remember information you have entered on forms when you navigate to different pages during a web browser session, identify you as being logged in to our website, etc.

  • Performance cookies - These cookies allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around on our website when they are using it. These cookies help us to improve the way the website works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily. These cookies provide statistics on how our website is used, help us improve the website by measuring any errors that occur, etc.

  • Functionality cookies - These are cookies that are used to recognise you when you return to our website. This enables us to personalise our content for you, greet you by name, remember if we have already asked you if you want to fill in a survey, and remember your preferences, for example your choice of language or region.

  • Tracking cookies – These are cookies recording a user's visit to a website, the individual pages visited and the links followed. If the cookie is set by a third party (for example, an advertising network) which also monitors traffic on other websites, this type of cookie may also be used to track a user's movements across different websites and to create profiles of their general online behaviour. Information collected by tracking cookies is commonly used to serve users with targeted online advertising.

Whether a cookie is considered as a 'first' or 'third party' cookie refers to the domain placing the cookie.

  • First-party cookies are cookies set by a website that is being visited by the user at the time (e.g. cookies placed by https://www.virbac.com/).

  • Third-party cookies are cookies that are set by a domain other than that of the website being visited by the user (e.g. Google Analytics, Facebook…).

Whether a cookie is considered as a 'persistent' or 'session' cookie refers to the duration of the cookie:

  • A persistent cookie or a stored cookie, is a cookie that is stored on your hard drive until it expires (persistent cookies are set with expiration dates) or until you delete it. Persistent cookies are used to collect identifying information about the user, such as Web surfing behaviour or user preferences for a specific Web site

  • A session cookie allows linking the actions of a user during a browser session. A session starts when a user opens a browser window and ends when the browser window is closed. Once the browser is closed, all session cookies are deleted.

You can find more information about the individual cookies we use, their duration and the purposes for which we use them in the table below:

XSRF-TOKEN

The cookie that starts with "XSRF-TOKEN" is likely a cookie used to prevent cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks. CSRF is a type of attack that occurs when a malicious website or attacker tricks a user into taking an unwanted action on a legitimate website. The XSRF-TOKEN cookie is used to help protect against CSRF attacks by storing a token that is checked on the server for each subsequent request. The token is generated by the server and sent to the client in an HTTP header or in a cookie, and then it is included in the body of each subsequent request. The server can then check that the token included in the request matches the one that was generated, and if they don't match, the request is rejected.

SHOP_SESSION_TOKEN

it could be used to authenticate the user session on an e-commerce website or any website that uses session-based authentication. The session token could be a unique string that identifies the user and their session on the website, it could be generated and sent to the client when the user logs in, and it could be checked by the server on each subsequent request to verify that the user is authenticated. This cookie would be necessary to maintain user's session and keep the user logged in.
